Colour perspective — reference imageAPPLICATION / REFERENCE IMAGERY

Why a digital preview and a physical coating need different kinds of evaluation.

A preview is a communication tool

A screen can help describe an intended colour direction. Its display settings and viewing conditions affect what you see; it does not replace an approved physical reference.

Describe appearance, not only a code

Include the relevant colour reference, substrate, finish and intended appearance in the brief. Ask the technical team what physical sample and evaluation process is appropriate.

Keep the comparison controlled

A matching workflow needs agreed references and suitable evaluation conditions. Any measurement, formula or instrument recommendation requires its own technical validation.

Build a comparison brief

Identify the reference you are trying to communicate: a physical sample, an authorised code or a customer-approved panel. Include the substrate and intended finish. Agree how the reference will be identified, stored and reviewed, and which viewing or measurement conditions the technical team needs to consider.

What the digital study does

The colour page lets you explore a screen palette and illustrative gloss, satin and matt appearances. You can place that direction in an enquiry brief. The hexadecimal value and appearance treatment describe the digital study only; they are not a paint formula, a measured result or a promise of matching accuracy.

Make it relevant to your project.

Bring the application and your requirements into a structured brief.
